Mike Wintemute

As associate vice chancellor for governmental relations and director of communications, Mike Wintemute works to inform the public and policymakers about the System and its universities and colleges.
 
Previously, Mike served as communications director in the Texas Lt. Governor's Office, managing the Lt. Governor's communications, press, and constituent affairs offices during the 80th and 81st legislative sessions.
 
Mike served in the administration of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as deputy secretary for the California Natural Resources Agency, deputy secretary for the California Environmental Protection Agency, and deputy director of the California Department of Fish and Game.
 
Prior to this, Mike was press secretary for the California Republican Party and served as a consultant to four consecutive minority leaders in the California State Assembly. He began his career as a broadcast journalist covering California government and politics.  Mike also worked as a consultant for the International Republican Institute, conducting political communications seminars in eastern Europe.
 
He earned a bachelor's degree from California State University, Fresno, and a master's degree from California State University, Sacramento.
