The Office of Governmental Relations coordinates communications regarding legislative and policy matters affecting higher education on behalf of the Board of Regents, the chancellor and the eight component institutions. The office provides leadership on the development of the System’s legislative priorities and ensures that the System’s priorities are communicated effectively to the state’s elected leadership.

Additionally, the office coordinates with component institutions on the flow of information to the legislature. Finally, the office works hard to establish and/or develop strong relationships with legislators and their staff as well as executive leadership, state agencies and other stakeholders in the higher education community.

Staff

Sean Cunningham, vice chancellor for governmental relations;  Mike Wintemute, associate vice chancellor for governmental relations; and John White, special assistant to the vice chancellors, represent the System and its component institutions before the Texas Legislature and federal, state and local governmental entities.
