Regent Rossanna Salazar of Austin is founder and managing partner of ROSS Communications, Inc., an Austin-based public affairs and strategic communications firm with a local, state, national and multi-national clientele. She is a member of the Texas Association of Business Executive Committee and the Austin Chamber of Commerce. She is also private sector chair of the Clements Legislative Study Program and a past volunteer with the Con Mi Madre College Preparatory Program.
She served as press secretary and chief speechwriter to Governor Bill Clements for several years during his second term of office, press secretary to the successful 1993 U.S. Senate campaign of Kay Bailey Hutchison, and she served as a formal advisor to Friends of Tony Garza and Texans for Rick Perry.
She also served as chief media spokesperson to then-Agriculture Commissioner Rick Perry. As a member of his senior staff of advisors, she was responsible for the development and implementation of public information activities related to the Department of Agriculture’s marketing and regulatory programs.
Regent Salazar began her career as a reporter. Beginning in 1983, she worked at the San Antonio Express-News, where she covered local government affairs. She went on to be a political writer for the San Antonio Light and a member of the newspaper’s editorial board. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Arizona in Tucson and is an appointee of Governor Rick Perry.
