Charlie Amato Elected Chairman of TSUS Board of Regents

The Board of Regents of the Texas State University System today elected Charlie Amato of San Antonio chairman of the board of Texas’ third-largest university system. The board also elected Donna Williams of Arlington vice chairman. Both votes were unanimous.

Gaertner Named Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall, Ph.D., today announced the appointment of Dr. James Gaertner as interim vice chancellor for academic affairs. In this role, Dr. Gaertner will
serve as the university system’s chief academic officer, overseeing academic program planning and review, curriculum development, and academic standards and policies.

Texas State University System Campuses See Record Enrollment

The Texas State University System today announced preliminary enrollment at its eight component institutions reached 76,290 for the Fall 2010 semester, an increase of 6.1% over the Fall 2009 semester. The new enrollment number is a record for TSUS.

Lamar University Joins Governor Perry’s Gulf Project

Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall, Ph.D., announced today that Lamar University will join the Gulf Project, a coalition of scientists, policy experts and researchers working to protect Texas’ economy and environment in the event of a disaster such as the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.

Texas State University System Refinances Bond Debt, Saves $8.5 Million

Taking advantage of record-low interest rates, The Texas State University System has refinanced $100 million of construction bond debt, saving the state nearly $8.5 million. The TSUS Board of Regents authorized the action July 14. The total interest cost for the transaction is 2.787%.

TSUS Board of Regents Appoints Dana Gibson, Ph.D., President of Sam Houston State University

The Texas State University System Board of Regents today unanimously approved the appointment of Dana Gibson, Ph.D., as the 13th president of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Dr. Gibson will assume the presidency on September 1, 2010, following the retirement of current SHSU President James Gaertner.

SACS Reaffirms Lamar University Accreditation

Lamar University has received reaffirmation of its accreditation from the Council on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). University officials were notified by phone of the successful conclusion of the thorough reaffirmation process.

Sole Finalist Announced in SHSU Presidential Search

The Board of the Regents of the Texas State University System and Chancellor Brian McCall, Ph.D., today announced the selection of Dana Gibson, Ph.D., as sole finalist in the Sam Houston State University (SHSU) presidential search. Dr. Gibson, a resident of Huntsville, currently serves as SHSU’s vice president for finance and operations, a position she has held since 2009.
