Sam Houston State President To Serve On U.S. Senate Education Task Force

Sam Houston State University President Dana L. Gibson has been named to a new national task force that will recommend solutions for curtailing the financial impact of federal regulations on universities. The Task Force on Government Regulations of Higher Education was created in response to complaints that government red tape has driven up tuition costs.
Dr. Ricardo Maestas Resigns as President of Sul Ross State University

The chancellor of the Texas State University System announced today that Dr. Ricardo Maestas has resigned as president of Sul Ross State University and Rio Grande College and will be reassigned as special assistant to the chancellor. Dr. Quint Thurman, provost and vice president for academic and student affairs at Sul Ross, will serve as interim president until a new president is appointed.
TSUS Board of Regents Re-elects Donna N. Williams as Chairman

The Board of Regents of the Texas State University System today re-elected Donna N. Williams of Arlington as chairman of the board, a position in which she has served since November 2012. The Board also re-elected Ron Mitchell as vice chairman.
TSUS Enrollment for Fall 2013 Outpaces Statewide Enrollment

Preliminary data released by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board today shows enrollment at the Texas State University System’s eight member institutions outpaced statewide enrollment during the fall 2013 semester. Headcount enrollment at TSUS institutions jumped from 77,413 in fall 2012 to 79,329 this fall—an increase of 2.5 percent.
Lamar University's Donna Blaisdell First-Ever TSUS Regents' Staff Member

The Board of Regents of The Texas State University System has given its first-ever Regents' Staff Member Award to Donna Blaisdell, an executive assistant at Lamar University. Blaisdell, assistant to the director of library services, has worked for more than 27 years at Lamar University, serving in the biology, graduate studies, institutional research, and computer science departments.
TSUS Foundation Gift Will Improve Sul Ross Lobos Athletic Facilities

Athletic facilities at Sul Ross State University’s Jackson Field will be upgraded in time for the Lobos’ first home football game, thanks to a gift from the Texas State University System Foundation. The Foundation’s Board of Directors authorized a gift to the university to pay for the construction of a new field house for the Lobos football team and the conversion of existing Jackson Field facilities to a visiting team locker room and a student weight training facility.
Governor Perry Appoints Matthew Russell Student Regent for 2013-14 Term

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Texas State University student Matthew Russell to the Texas State University System Board of Regents. Russell, who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in public administration at Texas State, will serve as the board's student regent effective June 1, 2013. The student regent is a non-voting member and serves a one-year term.

Evans, Ph.D., has been named sole finalist in the Lamar University presidential search. Dr. Evans was selected following an exhaustive national search that yielded more than 70 applications and nominations.
TSUS Board of Regents Adopts Fixed-Rate Tuition Program

The Board of Regents of The Texas State University System voted today to direct the system’s four-year institutions to develop optional fixed-rate tuition plans that will provide students and parents with more predictability when paying for college. The board approved the proposal unanimously during a special called meeting held in Austin.
English Withdraws from Lamar Presidential Search

English, Ph.D., dean of the College of Engineering at Kansas State University, withdrew from the search for personal and professional reasons.

TSUS Foundation Raises $275,000 for Edmund Kuempel Scholarship

The Texas State University System Foundation has raised $275,000 to support scholarships for students at all eight TSUS component institutions. The money will support a permanent scholarship fund named in honor of former Texas Representative Edmund Kuempel, who passed away in 2010.
TSUS Provides $1.8 Million for Sul Ross Scholarships

Sul Ross State University has announced the availability $75,000 in scholarships for area high school graduates and community college transfer students who are currently applying for the fall 2013 semester. Funding for the scholarships was made possible through the Texas State University System’s refinancing of construction bond debt.
