Texas State University System Campuses See Record Enrollment (9/15/10)

(AUSTIN, TX) – The Texas State University System today announced preliminary enrollment at its eight component institutions reached 76,290 for the Fall 2010 semester, an increase of 6.1% over the Fall 2009 semester. The new enrollment number is a record for TSUS.

“Throughout our system, enrollment is growing at a faster clip than Texas’ population,” said TSUS Chancellor Brian McCall, Ph.D. “This is good news for our campuses and for the students they serve. But it also raises the bar for our faculty, staff and administration. All of us will have to work harder to ensure that students continue to receive a quality education and leave our campuses prepared to compete in a global economy.”

Each of the component institutions experienced enrollment growth in the 2010 fall semester. Uncertified enrollment figures taken on the 12th day of instruction are:

Lamar University 14,618
Lamar Institute of Technology 3,238
Lamar State College-Orange 2,656
Lamar State College-Port Arthur 2,745
Sul Ross State University 2,124
Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College 1,109
Sam Houston State University 17,214
Texas State University-San Marcos 32,586

The Texas State University System is the oldest and third-largest university system in Texas. Established by the Texas Legislature in 1911, TSUS will celebrate its centennial in 2011.
