Dan Matheson

Dan Matheson is a founder and principal of the Austin law firm of Matheson Law Partners, PLLC, and its affiliated firm, Matheson Keys Garsson & Kordzik PLLC. His legal practice involves counseling and advising companies, ranging from start-ups to large, mature companies, in various industries on general corporate, corporate governance, and corporate finance matters. He has extensive experience in a wide array of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, “angel” and institutional venture capital investment transactions, private equity syndications, bank financing transactions, and public-private partnerships.
In 1974 Dan received his J.D. with Honors from the University of Texas School of Law, where he was an editor of the Texas Law Review. He attended Tulane University and received a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1971. Dan is a member of the American, Texas, and Travis County Bar Associations. Before establishing his current firms, Dan was a shareholder or partner in the law firms of Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr, P.C., Locke Liddell & Sapp, L.L.P. (now Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell L.L.P.), and Johnson & Wortley, P.C.
He currently serves as a director of the Texas State University System Foundation, a member of the Executive Committee of the Chancellors Council of the University of Texas System, a director and officer of The First Tee of Greater Austin, a member of the Board of Directors of Texas Coalition for Capital, and a member of the Community Advisory Board of Caritas of Austin. He formerly served as Chairman of the Board of Regents of the Texas State University System, Chairman of the Mental Health Association in Texas, Chairman of Texas Lyceum, Inc., Chairman of the Make-A-Wish Foundation for Central and South Texas, Chairman of The Capital Network, Inc., Director of the Texas Office of State-Federal Relations, and as a director and officer of numerous community organizations.
Dan is married to Jane Matheson, a labor and employment lawyer who is also a founder and principal of Matheson Law Partners and Matheson Keys, has three adult children (two of whom are lawyers and one of who is married to a lawyer), and five granddaughters.
