AlcalaDora G. Alcalá (2009)

Dora Alcalá was appointed to The Texas State University System Board of Regents by Governor Rick Perry in July 2004. Her term of service will expire on February 1, 2009.

She recently served as Mayor of Del Rio and chairwoman of the Texas Border Infrastructure Coalition Transportation Committee. For thirty-seven years, she worked in the area of Human Resources Management, Financial Management, and Educational and Equal Employment Opportunity for the United States Air Force. She also served abroad in Madrid, Spain and in the continental United States at the Pentagon, in Albuquerque, San Antonio, and Montgomery, Alabama. While in Montgomery, she served as the Director of the Ira C. Eaker Center for Professional Development.

Mrs. Alcalá is a recipient of the Distinguished Public Service Award given by the Governor of New Mexico and the California Hispanic Woman of the Year Award given by the Mexican-American Opportunity Foundation. She also received the Woman of the year Award from the National Council of Hispanic Women. In 1998, she received the Yellow Rose of Texas Award from then Governor Bush.

Mrs. Alcalá is a graduate of Sul Ross State University and received a master's degree in management from Webster University in St. Louis. She is also a graduate of the Air University's Academic Instructor's School at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.
