Regents' Staff Members
The Board of Regents of The Texas State University System annually selects an exceptional staff member from one component institution to receive the Regents' Staff Member Award. The award recognizes staff who excel in six areas: commitment to the university and its mission; job competency; collegiality; duration of service; community involvement; and exceptional achievement. Honorees receive a framed resolution, a medallion, a $3,000 cash award, and retain the title of Regents’ Staff Member for life.
Ms. Thompson is associate athletic director for student services and senior women's athletic administrator at Sam Houston State University. Over her career spanning more than 30 years, Thompson has worked to secure the well-being and achievement of student athletes both on and off the field. Her efforts have resulted in student athletes earning overall GPAs higher than the general student population in each of the last 22 years.
Joe Meyer arrived at Texas State University in January 1989 as a planning analyst for the Office of Institutional Research. He became assistant director of the Institutional Research office in 1993 and director in 1996. Joe serves on the Student Information System (SIS) Steering Committee, Data Stewardship Committee, Retention Analysis Council, Enrollment Management Council, University Council and the University Survey Committee at Texas State. He also serves on committees of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and Texas Association for Institutional Research.
Susie Fortenberry (Retired)
Susie Fortenberry was the executive assistant to the president of Lamar Institute of Technology. She worked in the "Lamar Family" of institutions for more than 45 years, providing outstanding support to the executive staff of numerous departments and divisions. Ms. Fortenberry garnered numerous honors and awards for outstanding service, including the first-ever Lamar University System Regents’ Staff Award, and was a four-time winner of the Lamar Institute of Technology Staff Excellence Award.
Donna Blaisdell (Retired)
Donna Blaisdell was the executive assistant to the director of library services at Lamar University. She worked at Lamar University for more 27 years, serving in a variety of departments and capacities. Ms. Blaisdell played an active role in many university events including Cardinal Lights, open houses, blood drives and United Way campaigns. Her achievements include receiving the LU Regent’s Award in 1989 and two nominations for LU staff awards.
