(HUNTSVILLE) – The Texas State University System Board of Regents today formally recognized winners of the 2019 Regents’ Professor Award, the highest honor bestowed upon faculty at TSUS member institutions. Regents’ Professors are recognized for exemplary performance in teaching, research, and service and for making significant contributions to the educational community.

Recipients of the 2019 Regents’ Professor Award are:

  • William Brittain, Ph.D. – Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Texas State University
  • Scott Chapman, Ph.D. – Professor of Mathematics & Statistics, Sam Houston State University
  • Xuejun Fan, Ph.D. – Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Lamar University
  • James Westgate, Ph.D. – Professor of Earth & Space Sciences, Lamar University

Each year, the presidents of TSUS member institutions nominate one or more faculty for the Regents’ Professor Award. An advisory committee consisting of previous winners judges the nominees based on their records of teaching, research, and service, and the Board of Directors of the TSUS Foundation selects recipients based on the advisory committee’s recommendations.

Regents' Professors receive a $5,000 award and commemorative medallion, and maintain the title of Regents’ Professor for the duration of their service within the System.
