(AUSTIN) – A record number of graduates are receiving degrees this spring, as the Texas State University System’s (TSUS) seven member institutions report the largest combined graduating class in the system’s 115-year history. An estimated 12,824 TSUS students are graduating this month, a 57% increase since 2015.
“This spring’s record graduating class reflects our institutions’ unwavering commitment to student success and to delivering high-quality degree and credential programs that prepare students to thrive long after college,” said Chancellor Brian McCall. “I congratulate our leadership, faculty, and staff – and, most importantly, our students – for the hard work, determination, and perseverance it takes to reach this milestone.”
All TSUS four-year institutions are reporting strong growth in degree productivity since 2015:
• 2,462 spring graduates at Lamar University (42% increase)
• 2,814 graduates at Sam Houston State University (46% increase)
• 170 graduates at Sul Ross State University (13% increase)
• 5,300 graduates at Texas State University (45% increase)
The increase in graduates is even more pronounced at the system’s two-year state colleges in Southeast Texas, which reduced tuition by half after receiving additional state funding in recent legislative sessions. Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College Orange, and Lamar State College Port Arthur are graduating 2,011 students this spring, a 232% increase since 2015.
