The National Association of Higher Education Systems, working in partnership with the Association of College and University Educators, has presented the Texas State University System with the inaugural System Teaching Award for its leadership and dedication to improving and supporting teaching excellence.
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Olivia J. Discon, a criminal justice major at Sam Houston State University, as student regent for the 2024-2025 term. Ms. Discon is one of eight student regents appointed to the governing boards of Texas’ public university systems and independent universities.

The Texas State University System Board of Regents today elected Alan L. Tinsley of Madisonville as chairman of the board, and Dionicio (Don) Flores of El Paso as vice chairman. The unanimous votes occurred during the board's quarterly meeting on the campus of Lamar University in Beaumont.
TSUS has joined the National Association of System Heads and other university systems across the country in a landmark campaign emphasizing the advantages of obtaining a college degree.
A record number of students enrolled at TSUS member institutions this fall. According to preliminary data, total headcount enrollment across the system increased three percent, from 87,360 last fall to 90,071 this year. Meanwhile, semester credit hour enrollment increased from 987,170 last fall to 1.02 million, a jump of three percent.
