Governor Abbott Appoints Texas State University’s Donavan Brown as Student Regent (5/30/25)

(AUSTIN) – Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Donavan Brown, a mechanical engineering and computer science major at Texas State University, as student regent for the 2025-2026 term. Mr. Brown is one of eight student regents appointed to the governing boards of Texas’ public university systems and independent universities.

Mr. Brown succeeds Sam Houston State University student Olivia Discon, whose one-year term on the board expires May 31. Student regents have the same rights and privileges as regularly appointed board members, except the right to vote or be counted toward a quorum for official board business.

The Texas State University System is the state’s first university system, with seven institutions serving more than 95,000 students from far West Texas to the Gulf Coast. Established in 1911, the mission of TSUS is to provide high-quality, affordable degree and credential programs to meet the needs of Texas’ diverse and fast-growing economy.
