Dr. Ashley Spicer-Runnels serves as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic and Health Affairs with the Texas State University System (TSUS). In this role, she partners with institutional leaders to advance systemwide initiatives related to academic affairs, innovation, research and development, online learning, strategic partnerships, and data-informed decision making. She collaborates with campus and System leaders to strengthen academic quality, improve student outcomes, and support the System's strategic priorities. During her time with TSUS, she has collaborated with institutional leaders on systemwide initiatives supporting statewide legislative implementation, academic innovation, strategic partnerships, and student success.
Prior to joining TSUS, Dr. Spicer-Runnels served as Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at Texas A&M University–San Antonio, where she partnered with academic leaders to develop policies and initiatives that supported academic excellence, student success, and degree completion. She also served as Assistant Vice President for Student Success, overseeing new student and transition programs and a broad portfolio of student support initiatives.
Before her tenure at Texas A&M University–San Antonio, Dr. Spicer-Runnels held leadership positions at Texas State University and Lamar University. Throughout her career, she has overseen programs and initiatives in leadership development, family engagement, fraternity and sorority life, orientation and transition programs, community engagement, shuttle services, and student conduct.
Dr. Spicer-Runnels earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston–Victoria, and a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from Lamar University.
She is an active member of the Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators (TACUSPA), a Gallup-Certified CliftonStrengths Coach, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Dr. Spicer-Runnels and her husband, Chris, reside in Cibolo, Texas, with their three sons.
